I had people telling me that I was talented and unique. Then they would ask me what I planned on doing with my life, because, they felt that I should be selling my handmade goods online. Before losing two jobs earlier in the year, I would have brushed their suggestions aside. My canned response was that I was still in school and I do not have the time to build a business.
Unemployment was hard than getting up and going to work five days a week. To give my days purpose, I would sew and make quilts just to keep my hands moving and my mind far from failure. I found gratification from making something I designed myself. Having discovered more time to sew I have decided to take my quilting hobby to a new place.
I have a super power. I can construct objects in three dimension inside my mind. This works amazingly because I have come up with some wild solutions. I have constructed quilts in my mind without picking up my tools or needing to sew a stitch. It it exhilarating to be able to visualize a product before it comes to fruition.
The danger in dreaming up these amazing project is that you can build these wonderful creation in moments, but the hard work comes down to getting them out of your head and putting them out into the world.
Three years from now I see myself as a thriving modern quilt designer. I will expand my line of quilting patterns which are currently sold online and will shortly be available in quilting shops.
I find little moments of honesty, like the one I share with you now, are enlightening peeks into someones past and their true desires.
The most terrifying stuff to put down into words was not my aspirations, I believe in my artwork and know that my passion for helping others explore their creatively will propel my dream business to infinity and beyond.
That being said, the hard part is describing how my whole life, all the good and bad, has lead me to here.
